Cat & Dog Licences

The Town of Assiniboia requires you to purchase an annual licence for your cat or dog to help ensure your pet is returned safely if it is lost or found running loose.

 

  • Duties of Cat & Dog Owners, Animal Bylaw 17/10 

    • All dogs/cats are to wear a collar and a pet license
    • No dogs/cats to defecate on public/private property, unless their own property.
    • No dogs/cats are permitted to be running at large. 1st offence -$40 2nd -$80  3rd -$120
    • No dogs/cats shall become a nuisance by barking/howling exceeding a 15 min period
    • No dogs/cats (unless an assist pet) allowed on any school grounds or playgrounds
    • No dogs/cats are to chase pedestrians, vehicles or other animals
    • No dogs/cats are to cause damage to public or private property
    • No dogs/cats should be tethered less that 3 m in length. Tethers should be unrestricted.
    • No person shall tease, entice, bait or throw objects at a dog/cat 

    We ask pet owners to be great owners. Pets are family. Please clean up after your dog/cat & please don’t let dogs/cats run at large. For more info see the entire animal control bylaw. 

  • No backyard chickens allowed

    As per Bylaw 17/10, It shall be unlawful to keep live poultry, livestock and/or bees within the boundaries of the Town of Assiniboia. Check out our Animal Control Bylaw 17/10 for more information on prohibited animals and violation penalties.

Licence Fees

You can purchase your  licence tag at the Town Office   Pet License Application 

  • The annual cost of an animal licence is $ 5.00 for a spayed or neutered cat or dog / a puppy/kitten (under 6 months of age)
  • The annual cost of an animal licence is $ 25.00 for a NON spayed or neutered cat or dog.
  • Assist Dogs - No Charge

You are required to renew your licence annually and to keep your licence updated when you move and/or your pet is given away, lost, stolen or is deceased.

 

Benefits of Licensing

Licensing your pet helps to identify and protect your pet in case it becomes lost. Even indoor pets can get out and become lost. A pet licence is not only a requirement, but it provides the following benefits:

  • A licence tells everyone that your pet is not a homeless stray.
  • Animal licensing is an essential part of animal care and control in our community. Licence fees support animal control services, animal impoundment services and administrative and educational services.
