Mount Hope Cemetery
Mount Hope Cemetery is a non-denominational cemetery operated by the Town of Assiniboia and located on a quiet country road. One goes west on Dominion Road to 6th Street. The cemetery is straight ahead.
The cemetery is open to the public 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. There is no office on site. Individuals inquiring about the cemetery are asked to contact the Town of Assiniboia at 642-3382 or by emailing to townoffice@assiniboia.net

Please note: A concrete foundation is $100.00 + GST which will accommodate a standard-sized monument. Please note monument specifications below.
Opening & Closing:

An additional $400.00 will be added to all open / closes that take place on weekends or holidays.
Monument Guidelines:
Flat, pillow or upright monuments are accepted in Mount Hope Cemetery.
All monuments must be placed on a concrete runner (supplied by the Town of Assiniboia).
No vases, etc. may be set on the grass.
No inverted vases may be cut through the concrete runner.
Please note: Monuments must not exceed 3' feet, 6" inches (length) x 1' foot, 2" inches (width) x 4' feet, 10" inches (height). (see form below for complete details)
It is important that your chosen monument company are aware of our specifications for monuments as we cannot accommodate any deviation due to the layout of the runners.
Any inquiries should be directed to the town office prior to purchase, as the town is not responsible for monument design or installation and is not liable for purchases made without a permission to install form signed by a Town of Assiniboia representative.
It is essential that your chosen Monument Company complete and return the permission to install form before purchase to ensure that all guidelines are met.
Town staff is available to assist you in selecting and purchasing a plot that will meet the needs and wishes of you and/or your loved one. When burial arrangements are required, Town staff will coordinate the preparation of the gravesite with the funeral home of your choice or with you directly.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Visitation
The public may visit the Cemetery at any time between 8:30 a.m. and sunset. Children under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by an adult who shall be responsible for their good conduct and for seeing that they do not run over the graves and Plots.
Cars and other vehicles shall be driven with care and shall be restricted to the driveways and the maximum speed limit of 25 km. per hour. Persons within the Cemetery shall use only the walkways, and no one is permitted to walk upon or across plots, except Cemetery staff in the performance of their work. The Town expressly disclaims liability for any injuries sustained by anyone violating this rule.
No dogs or other animals shall be allowed.
No person shall, while in the Cemetery willfully destroy, mutilate, deface, injure, write upon or remove any Monument, Marker or other structure or object placed in the Cemetery, or any fence, railing or wood installed for protection or ornamentation.
Perpetual Care Program
The Town of Assiniboia provides ongoing care of the cemetery and all plots (excluding markers) at no additional cost or fee, other than the original purchase price. The town also provides ongoing improvement, preservation and enhancement services.
Installation of Monuments & Markers
No person can erect a Monument tablet or Monument until the Town of Assiniboia has approved the design and descriptions and a permit for the erection of such a Monument has been issued. Only one (1) Monument will be allowed on each Burial Plot. One (1) Marker, flush with the ground may be placed at each grave in addition to the Monument.
All Monuments must be installed on a concrete base and must be at least four (4) inches wider than the widest portion of the Monument and must be of sufficient strength and depth to properly support the Monument. The concrete base must be installed flush with the ground. Ownership of gravestones, grave Markers, and Monuments belongs to the estate of the deceased person(s).
Maintenance and Control
Lettered boards, enclosures or designs of any description designating graves, other than the standard materials available, will not be allowed without permission. In the interest of overall appearance of the Cemetery, no shrubs, trees or flowers may be planted in any part of the Cemetery other than those planted by the Cemetery caretakers or authorized representatives.
The Caretakers, or authorized representatives, shall have the authority to have removed from any grave any weeds, grass, funeral designs or floral pieces that have become wilted, or any other articles or things that in his/her opinion are unsightly. The Town of Assiniboia is not responsible for the loss or damage to any flower holder or any portable object placed on any Plots.
No person shall erect upon a grave Plot any cover, curbs, fences, railings, walls, copings, trellises, hedges, trees, or shrubs without a permit obtained from the Town of Assiniboia.
If any trees, shrubs or the like situated in any Plot becomes inconvenient in any way, detrimental to adjacent Plots, dangerous, unsightly or objectionable, the Caretaker, or authorize representative, shall have the right to have the same removed, but in doing so, will leave the area in a safe, proper and neat condition.
Field of Honour
A section of Mount Hope Cemetery has been set aside as a Field of Honour for the burial of any person who has been in active service with the forces of Her Majesty or Her Majesty's allies. Spouses may also qualify for internment in the Field of Honour.
Plot Options
Ash Plots (Cremation Burial) A section of Mount Hope Cemetery has been designated to accommodate funeral urns. Smaller in size, ash plots can accommodate a maximum of two urns each. Urns or urn vaults must not exceed 18" inches (length) by 18" inches (width).
Standard Plots (Traditional Burial) Standard plots in Mount Hope Cemetery are designed to accommodate one casket*. Standard plots can also accommodate up to a maximum of six urns*.
*Standard plots can accommodate both a casket AND up to six urns, however, the casket and liner MUST be interred first.
Notice of Burial
Weekdays The Town of Assiniboia requires a minimum notice of two business days to prepare a gravesite for burial. A shorter notice may be acceptable or a longer notice period may be required depending on climatic conditions. Please contact the Town of Assiniboia to discuss your particular requirements prior to making any firm arrangements. We will always do our best to accommodate and make every effort to assist you.
Weekends, Evenings & Holidays Burials that occur on Saturdays, Sundays, evenings or holidays are subject to overtime charges and require four business days notice. Please consult the Town of Assiniboia for more information.
